The existing runway is approximately 1,633 metres or 5,358 feet long and about 30 metres wide. That is suitable for turboprops and many light or midsize business jets, but the operating carrier must calculate performance for the exact aircraft, weight, weather, runway condition and required safety margins.

A jet being technically capable of landing does not automatically mean it can depart with enough passengers, luggage and fuel for a long nonstop sector. This distinction is particularly important for flights from western North America and Europe.

Option 2: Fly to St. Maarten (SXM/TNCM) and Transfer to Anguilla

Princess Juliana International Airport has a longer runway, extensive international handling and greater suitability for heavy and ultra-long-range aircraft. It is located on St. Maarten, only about 19 km from Anguilla.

After arriving at SXM, passengers can continue by:

• A private or semi-private boat from the terminal near Princess Juliana Airport to Blowing Point.
• A public ferry from Marigot on the French side of St. Martin.
• A scheduled or private aircraft transfer from St. Maarten to Anguilla, with an airborne time of approximately seven minutes.

The private boat is often the most seamless option for groups arriving at SXM because the departure point is near the airport. The sea crossing is generally around 20 to 30 minutes, but total transfer time also includes immigration, baggage movement, boarding and ground transportation.

Tourism Anguilla’s transfer guide notes that private ferry services are generally concentrated in daytime hours and reservations are advisable. A late SXM arrival should not be booked on the assumption that a same-day boat will be available. The boat or connecting flight should be confirmed before finalizing the long-range charter schedule.

Anguilla opened a new airport terminal in December 2025. The 48,000-square-foot facility significantly expanded passenger space and security-processing capacity. The airport’s runway, however, remains the main operational constraint for larger and heavily loaded aircraft.

The government is progressing a project to extend the runway to approximately 7,000 feet or 2,134 metres and widen it. As of September 2026, that extension has not been completed and is reportedly expected in early 2029 following project delays. Charter planning must therefore use the current published runway—not the future planned length.

Airport hours and late operations

Anguilla should not be treated as an unrestricted 24-hour airport. Lloyd Aviation Services publishes normal opening hours of 07:00 to 19:00 daily, with extended hours available by request. It also states that late operations can be arranged.

An extension is not automatic. The operator and handler must confirm airport, air traffic control, customs, immigration, fire coverage and handling availability. Additional charges may apply. During Christmas, New Year and other peak periods, aircraft parking and handling should be secured early.

Landing permits

Lloyd Aviation states that Part 135 charter flights require landing-permit approval for Anguilla. The required package includes the air carrier certificate, registration certificate, airworthiness certificate, insurance, noise certificate and applicable operating specifications. Its published guidance asks for the application approximately 48 hours before the flight.

This is normally handled by the charter operator and local representative, with JetFinder coordinating the process as part of the trip. Very short-notice travel may still be possible, but it depends on aircraft availability, documentation and authority response time.

Can a Large Private Jet Land in Anguilla?

Some larger business jets may be able to land at AXA under specific conditions, but the current runway can impose meaningful restrictions. Short aircraft transfer

A scheduled or private flight between St. Maarten and Anguilla takes approximately seven minutes in the air. It can be preferable when sea conditions are uncomfortable, but total connection time includes immigration, baggage transfer, check-in and airport procedures.

Passengers bringing numerous large bags must confirm the smaller aircraft’s baggage allowance. The long-range jet may have substantially more storage than the connecting turboprop.

Every passenger must carry an original valid passport. Visa requirements depend on nationality and immigration status. UK government travel guidance for Anguilla states that British visitors may visit visa-free for up to 90 days and that passports must be valid for the duration of the stay.
